Title: Development of Specialty Optical Fibres via 3D Printing and Their Sensing Applications
Presenter: Professor Yanhua Luo, Key Laboratory of Specialty Fiber Optics and Optical Access Networks, Shanghai University, China
Abstract: 3D printing is transforming the field of photonics by offering unprecedented freedom in material selection and structural design. This technology has made it possible to manufacture silica optical fibers with diverse materials and structures, unlocking novel performance capabilities. These 3D printed fibers show significant promise for advanced sensing applications. Despite current challenges such as high loss, bubbles, and distortion, 3D printing is poised to revolutionize traditional optical fiber manufacturing and have a major impact on the Internet of Things in near future.
