The Laser Trip - When the light became music

Peter Gate proposes an unique project to transform the laser light into a signal, then into sound and finally into music. "Laser Trip" is an innovative music and space experimentation project developed in collaboration with Dr. Marian Zamfirescu, scientific researcher at the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics and Dr. Mark McCaughrean, advisor at the European Space Agency.

Together they set the theme that lies in this process of converting optical energy into acoustic energy, namely that of the virtual behavior of sound and light in space. Collaborators of this project are Yamaha Music Europe, which provided the equipment needed for such an experimental process, as well as the Qolony Art & Science Association.

The musical animation inspired by this project will be broadcast on February 19, 2021 and will be centered around simulating the behavior of sound and light in space. This musical animation is an aesthetic perspective on the border of art and science made by the visual artist Kay Starseeker. The soundtrack of this animation will be played in an 8D sound system for a great audio experience.

The founder of The Deep Sound of Space, Peter Gate, is an experimental musician, visual artist and anthropologist. He initiated innovative interdisciplinary projects, from the reinterpretation of ancestral sounds in contemporary music (The Deep Sound of Maramureș, 2015) to concerts that are true sensory experiences (4D Immersive Sound Experience).
