Romanian InSpace Engineering (RISE) will launch the Drop Coal mission to the International Space Station (ISS) at the beginning of November. This mission is a scientific experiment fully developed in Romania as part of a project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The Drop Coal project marks several milestones: it is the first payload entirely designed and manufactured in Romania to reach the ISS, Romanian InSpace Engineering SRL being, in fact, the first entity from Romania to develop an experiment approved by both ESA and NASA safety commissions for use aboard the ISS (human-crewed flight).

The team of scientists behind this experiment is led by experts from Romania’s National Institute for Laser, Plasma, and Radiation Physics (INFLPR) in collaboration with the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany) and Carnegie Mellon University (United States).
